Come on people…
I see that the subject of this week’s witch hunt is this blog and the evil it is doing to several resident’s computers.
My, my, my, we do have too nuch time on our hands, don’t we? I wrote a friend about this. He is a Software Testing Engineer. I hope I don’t have to go too deep into an explanation on what that is. To be brief, he is a highly educated man from Virginia Tech and served on our highest level of nuclear submarine overseeing nuclear operations. He currently designs and tests computer software as a private contractor for the U.S. Navy.
I’ve cut this from a letter he sent me today, concerning your baseless fears.
A virus cannot “Target” anyone due to the fact that the IP Address is different every time you connect! Additionally, the only way you can infect a machine is to get the user to download a file! The service provider scans the file, the SMPT Protocol’s are alerted to nearly every possible virus and looks for them, and your own PC will have it’s own virus scan that will alert the user to the presence of the virus.
It’s actually really hard to get a virus on a PC these days unless the person is using a very old operating system and has not updated their machine with the required patches.
If you have Windows VISTA or XP with Norton or McAfee Anti-Virus (and it’s up to date), there is almost no chance anymore of infecting a computer unless your just stupid and click and open every thing that is passed your way!
You can’t fight “Stupid”. You know that! You’ve been to California!
As for targeting a specific computer! Even for a god awful good hacker it’s almost impossible. The reason you hear about companies and the government getting hacked is that they have “Fixed IP Addresses” where the hacker can just keep plinking at it until they break through. However, it is really getting almost impossible without sophisticated tools to hack through the layers of firewalls and other protections even to get into the first level of security anymore.
First I had to explain drummings were ok, then I had to explain that Pagans were not bad and having a Pagan gathering would be safe for our souls. The world is not flat nor the center of the universe. We have walked on the moon. Elvis is dead.
Go get some hobbies. Try a Ouija board.

About Hawk: Hawk spends most of his days in the dirt trying to beautify naked ghettos. |

I agree with you on all of that except that last part about Elvis. No way!
