Just when you think that all your volunteer efforts are taken for granted and you are being used as free labor, you find out you’re right!
That’s right folks. The same people who volunteer on a daily basis to help things run smoothly while they pay to live here are getting a rent increase. There’s only one way to look at it, a fuck over.
Just this past week an irrigation pump for the pond broke down and two guys disconnected it, took it to their place, fixed it and hooked it back up, for free. We have one permanent that sweeps the pool three times a week, for free. Sequoia and I do tons of hours in promo for this place, as well as landscaping and fixing things that could cause injuries for visitors and residents, for free. The only reason an event happens at all here is from the free labor of the permanent residents.
What would happen if the permanent residents just stopped giving away their time? Simple. The owner would have to pay for whatever needed to be done. We can look around and see that wont happen.
The rent increase is supposed to cover increased operating costs. The only operating cost I see is the salary of the new general manager. I haven’t seen any improvements directly due to his efforts. This place is empty so its not like we needed the extra manpower. I haven’t seen any improvements in facilities other than what is done for free by residents.
Let’s go back a bit. When the new owner bought the camp is was full. There were about 60 permanent residents compared to the 19 now. We were packed full in the Winter. You would think that if you saw your business was going down the first year you would look at what happened. If you saw it happen the next year you have a problem with your managers. If you saw your business continue to go down the third year, you have a problem with yourself for not caring enough to get involved.
The owner already has a business (here) that people pay to live at and do work for free. Operating costs could have been lowered by the international volunteer program Sequoia introduced to the owner. Tens of thousands of dollars in labor and facility upgrades could have been provided for free by insured volunteers. God damn! What could be easier? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, raise the rent on those tenants. Besides, they keep volunteering after you raise the rent you know you can bend them over any way you want. Fuck ‘em.
We told the owner and managment how they could make a lot of money from agriculture. We explained how in one Summer there could be incredible upgrades with the volunteer program that would attract more seasonal residents. We have given many suggestion on events that would bring in new people. Our only visible increase in operating cost hasn’t acted on any of them.
What’s the point in doing anything for free if the the owner still wants to nickel and dime your ass and use you as just a source of financial recuperation? Why promote getting new residents here when they will be used the same way? Why do anything at all anymore? Why not just go to a place where there is a plan and organized effort to improve the lifestyle, especially if it’s cheaper to live there?
It’s a matter of principle. You don’t insult the care and efforts of the people that have proven their support for you and your project by their actions. An intelligent person would make good use of that energy. A respectful person would show appreciation.
I’m just waiting to hear that the rent increase would have been larger if we didn’t volunteer. If I hear that, I at least want a “reach around”.

I also heard that people were having a hard time getting in the gate. One guy said he had to call repeatedly to get anyone to answer and let him in. I wonder if that happened to any other people? How many people just weren’t let in?

Hawk, you and Sequoia need to get out of that old fat farm. You are wasting your time. I’ll look through my listings and see if I can get you guys into a nice cottage. I’ve been seeing places of 600 sq.ft. going for what you pay there. You have 128 sq.ft.? That’s $4.68 a square foot! You’ve been getting fucked Hawk.
You can’t blame the owner when you have proven yourselves to be suckers. What’s your next move running into traffic and blaming the people who run you down? Stop whining you set yourself up for this.

Guys, not sure weither we have jumped the gun or not, lets see what the NEW GM does we have 2 couple of weeks to see what he is made of, as far as the gate that happened due to the rain and lightning, and yes it has some bugs, but at least it’s there when it wasn’t for a long time, Tks and have a great naked day

All Wizard did was offer to help them look for another place to live. Im gonna join in that effort. Anybody that would want you to stay in that cellblock is not a friend or like you at all. Ive seen it 600 bucks for a 8×16 plywood box that has the grey water bubblin up in the front yard thats getto resort.
I know that they are living in a totally illegal structure, unpermitted and legally uninhabitable.
Hawk has a construction company and is supposed to report code vuiolations, particularly when people are living in illegal situations. Just the exterior electrical outlets would get that box they are calling a cottage red tagged.
The sewage that flows across the concrete front yard is worth a red tag.

An uninsulated structure that you can see the outside world from the inside of the structure can grow lots of black mold. Red tag.
Any permits for the new high voltage electric service that has been recently installed? Probably not since I know it wouldn’t pass inspection just on ground depth, not to mention wire gauge and run. CAMP RED TAG. How do I know this? Hawk and I built together on the highest level of construction.

My shitbox would get immediately condemned! I would have to move and all the other structures here are just as illegal as the one I live in now but they rent for a higher price.
The GM is trying to get something done. Like for instance he told Scot and Mina at the party on the 6th that he, Scot, Mina, Sequoia and I would go out for dinner and talk about how we can get more people in here and that he would call them on Monday the 8th. Now can we really say that just because it’s the 11th and he hasn’t called them that he isn’t serious about improving his project. Can we really say that just because he was going to get back with me on that same Monday about the rent increase and he hasn’t by today, Thursday, that we are jumping the gun?
Aww shucks guys, it’s all how you look at it. When I watch the lizards crawl in through the walls from the outside I look at how close we are to nature.
When I smell the water that comes up in the front yard I ignore the old food chunks floating up and think of how the smell reminds me of sulphur springs out in nature.
When I run to my litle Love Shack in the rain and see the little blue sparks dancing on the interior wall socket used as an exterior wall socket on my exterior walls, I see art in the physics of nature. (I always wonder why the breaker doesn’t trip.)
The mold in the walls might be a sign I can grow mushrooms.

Hawk you said it all, your right! I felt like that a few months ago, and I remember you saying; Lets show him (Patrick) what we can do as a group, and volunteer to beautify this place coming together to organize some drum circles, and basically get the word out about our 10 acres of paradise. All I’m saying is try not to give up just yet everything takes time.
Let’s try not to blame him… we need to get him to open his eyes that nudists are more helpful and caring about our grounds, and we’re more supporting than his textiles.

You saw how much time Sequoia and I put into this place (more than anyone here is even capable of) and what we got for it.
The people in Weston especially won’t want to spend their money on spaghetti dinners and pig roasts in a naked trailer park. Look at their homes and look at what you see when you first drive in.

Can not see clear what is going on, (sit still till the price of land goes up and then
SELL) it is clear that this is what the owner is waiting for. And i have heard from a good
source that he is close to his money and he dont like paying and has no idea of how to say
thanks even without saying the words. I myself got caught spending lots of time to convince
snowbords to stay at Seminole the first year he took ownership, i managed to almost fill
up the club but he put the cramp on us and many were dissatisfied with his strict rules and
no bending… all we heard is if you want all that it will cost you more monthly. But we
were asking for was not going to cost him more. Well i am fed up of mentioning all these
things we went thru, i dont want to discourage any of you residents because we like to see
you all this coming winter season and please lets try to get all together and have some fun. Hope you have a great summer.
Hawk and Sequoia, I just don’t know what to say, I know that losing an asset like you 2 would put us back some,and I know your frustrated, but tomorrow is another day, and you 2 are way better than what i have seen written in here latly. As for Rob it’s nice to see you in here my good friend, but we need more possitive things here not negitive, and yes we will be here to keep you straight, and you have a great summer also. As for you Sosie, yes each day in life is a challenge, but if we can all get togeither and talk to the new Gm, maybe we can get him to understand. Hawk he knows your pissed, i didn’y know about the dinner, sorry that didn’t happen. Hawk lets get a game plan, and take it to the GM, and lets see what he does, he’s had enough time, let get some action and see what he’s made of. You all are more like family, all in your own ways, but most of all, through the nudist life style. Hawk i know you like a challenge, and your not one to give up, lets give this one more try. Yep your right! I try to offer help and ideas all the time. Do you know what’s missing…a leader. Someone to say OK lets go. It’s always check with this one or that one, and noone takes control. That’s why I thought the residents could get together, as a nudist forum, and organize all these great ideas, so we could implement them and delegate who can do what. I still think patience is the key. Sorry to hear you’ve given up, but maybe you’ll be surprised.
Let’s not be delusional. The person who took control is the Gm. That’s the job description. The leaders are the immediate managers. That’s their job description. The residents should get together again? Right, you do that, again. Keep doing the patience thing too. Just the fact that Patrick wanted to raise rent and even charge us for the events we volunteered for shows he thinks we are total morons. Sequoia and I were the ones that pushed for new events. We did the ground work, brought in people and spent a couple hundred hours on the net.For nothing.
Patricks method is place an ad and see what happens. That’s it.
Joel’s method is to let other people do things that might make him look good and set up meetings he doesn’t follow through with. What don’t you guys get?
We did more than anyone else has. Let’s see what you can get done besides trying to get us to do more.
I am with you all guys, just don’t give up the ship, just ride the waves slowly and you will feel better. I am sure that when the summer is over you will all feel much better and things will have shaped up. Wish we could give you a hand from this distance but unfortunately it is not possible. Wow . . . Sounds a little like a high tech version of what things were like when I lived there both part time and full time for a 6 year period there in the early and mid seventies. Great place then – lotsa nice people – good management but always with financial problems and it was a fun place to be. After living there I moved to Late Como then in 82 came down to Costa Rica where I still am. No nudist places here and we sure miss life as it was back then. Jim and Flora.
